Sony is an electronics company founded in Minato, Tokyo, Japan by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita in 1946. Today, they are one of the leaders in consumer products, games, motion pictures, music and financial services. They built the first tape recorder in Japan called the Type-G. In 1958, they officially changed their name to Sony. They produced one of their first boomboxes in 1978, the CF-520. Sony was the first company to offer a boombox with a CD player in 1986, the CFD-5.
